Welcome to the SWLVGA
South West Lady Veterans Golfing Association
The idea for the South West Lady Veterans Golfing Association was formed to promote inter-county competitions between teams of Senior ladies (originally 55 and over) for both sporting enjoyment and social interaction.
Minutes from the meeting held on 4th December 1968 ratified the format and formally joined the Counties of Dorset, Devon, Wiltshire, Somerset and Cornwall.
Each year each County has shared in hosting a competition at a local golf course.
Originally inter County competitions were for “silver” category players playing as match-play singles. However, from December 1990 the format changed to Match-play Foursomes Better-ball and became more inclusive. Interestingly the entrance fee to play in 1968 was 5/- (25p) and the association simply called the South West Veterans Association.
The match formats now include Spring and Autumn meetings, with the format being chosen by the hosting County. There are also inter County “Shield” matches played between each county.
To qualify for membership, you must be a member of your own County Ladies Veterans Association (or Ladies Seniors Association) which will be affiliated to the SWLVGA. Each County will appoint a representative to the SWLVGA.
